What is guided access?

In simple terms, guided access is a method to provide access to your phone to someone only with chosen features and applications. For example, if your friend wants to access your phone to use YouTube and you want to ensure that your friend doesn’t use other applications or any other content on your device, then, in that case, guided access will help you. Wait, do you think guided access is like a parental control facility? No, it is entirely different from parental control. This guide will erase your confusion. keep reading it.

When you use guided access on your Android phone, no one can make you fool in using your Android device. You can control every single application on your device. Most importantly, no one can now cheat you by using your device. You might have faced such a scenario when your close one will have stolen your private information while using your mobile phone because of universal access to the device. But your phone’s data is almost safe with guided access.

Further, you use security tools to protect your device. You can’t restrict the user not to access everything on your phone. That is why guided access is here to eliminate such risks from your life.

How does guided access work on Android phones?

You will find guided access on your Android device with the feature called Screen pinning. If you have Android phones with the newer operating systems, you can use Screen pinning. When Screen pinning is enabled, you can only use the pinned app. You can’t use other apps until you disable the Screen pinning. If you give your phone to someone with Screen pinning enabled for a particular app, they can’t use any other application and can’t go back to the home screen.

Screen pinning works in two different ways:

  • Under the normal mode, if you hold the Back and the App switcher button, Screen pinning will be disabled, and the device will be ready for normal use.
  • Under the second mode, you can unpin the application using the same button but the device will be locked automatically. The user will need to unlock the phone to use it again.

How to enable Screen pinning to use guided access?

To enable Screen pinning on your Android phone, follow the below instructions.

  • Go to the Setting app on your device.
  • You have to find a Security & location option. Then scroll down to see the Screen pinning feature. Or type screen pinning in the search bar after opening the Settings app and find easily.
  • Once you find the Screen pinning option, turn on the toggle button to enable the feature.
  • If the option Ask for PIN before unpinning available on your Android phone, you can opt for it.

How to use it?

  • Find the app you have to pin on the device.
  • Click on the app switcher button located at the bottom of the screen to switch the app.
  • Find the switched app and hit on the dotted icon above the app.
  • Click on the pin icon to pin the app on the screen.
  • Now you have pinned the app successfully.
  • If you want to unpin the app, click and hold the Back and the App switcher button.
