VIN number can really be quite confusing. The VIN number were normally 8 to ten characters, often fewer, during the 1950s and 1960s. Some makers, such as Ford, Plymouth, and Studebaker, have encoded engine models and body shapes in some cases. In the past, VIN numbers began to expand a little longer. Generally, 13 characters and more producers began encoding engine forms and models.
