What Is Ophthalmic Equipment?

Although the eyes are small in size, they are one of the most complicated parts of our body. Despite their small size, they are packed with a lot of visual nerves and fluids which are delicately balanced. Any kind of disorganization or contamination can lead to major eye diseases that can cause permanent eye damage. This is why various ophthalmic equipment is used to find out the different problems regarding the eyes.

There is different instrument table optometry that is used for making the patient lie down at different poses. The tables can be adjusted according to the height of the patient and also according to the part of the eye the doctor wants to examine. Many advanced instrument tables have attached lamps that the doctor focuses on the eyes of the patients. Some optometry chairs are also motorized and the doctor can control the position with remote control.

The commonly used ophthalmic diagnostic equipment consists of many small tools like Iris Forceps, Barraquer Corneal Forceps, Epilation Forceps, Suture/Dissecting Forceps, Wilde Entropion Forceps, Pooley Conjunctival Scissors, Castroviejo Scissors, Thomas Strabismus Scissors, and Vannas Scissors. These various small instruments are used for delicately examining the eye to find out the subtle causes of infections or diseases.

There are also many bigger instruments like Tonometer, Phoropter, Retinoscope, Autorefractor, Snellen chart, Retinal Camera, Ophthalmoscope, and VT 1 Vision Screener that are needed for advanced clinical diagnoses. The optometrists or ophthalmologists decide the instruments needed according to the symptoms of the patients and the probable eye disease they are suffering from.
