Success In IAS Interview

The IAS Interview happens to be a half-hour interview that can change the life of a person completely. A good enough score in the UPSC interview can lead to a difference of up to 100 marks within just 30 minutes. It happens to be the last round that can extend an unassailable lead to a candidate in the toughest competition of India - the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).

Although the final score or rank is the total of the main exam and interview marks, it has often been observed that those who secure a high score in the interview have a high chance of making it to the top final selection list.

Given below are a few golden tips that can ensure success in an IAS interview:

Early start

It is essential for candidates not to lose time. An early start is a significant advantage. It is always wise not to wait for the results of the UPSC civil services main exam. Start preparing for the interview by polishing your personality as early as you can.

Understanding Oneself

The most crucial thing is that people do not understand themselves fully. A human has got multiple skins that cover the depth of the heart. A person might know a lot of things about this world but may not know oneself. It is important to understand the various aspects of the human personality, especially those that are unknown or hidden. If any personality trait does not fit with what is needed for an IAS officer, it must be overcome; else, it might become the biggest weakness.

Revise Bio-Data

In the interview, most of the questions are framed according to the bio data of the candidate. Copy of the DAF (Detailed Application Form) is shared with each of the board members. It is important not to fumble on questions, especially those that are directly related to the candidate. Therefore, candidates must revise their bio data several times over and be ready with questions related to their education, hobbies, work, experience, preference for service, etc.

Positive Attitude

There are a lot of rumours and myths related to IAS interviews. It is possible that a previous interview may not have gone well. However, do not let negative thoughts or experiences become a weakness. Do not think too much about the positions, questions, interview board, etc. or anything which is beyond one's control. Just hope for the best.

Don't Take The Interview Lightly

When it comes to IAS or UPSC interviews, be very serious about the questions and the process. Pay proper respect to the interview board members who conduct the personality test. Do not make the mistake of underestimating the person taking the interview. Such people have vast experience and knowledge. Do not make the mistake of approaching a serious question casually else, it might be the end of the journey.

The most crucial thing in a UPSC interview is to be honest. Do not lie about anything. Interview board members are extremely sharp people and can quickly figure out things. At the same time, you have to avoid being over-smart. Always keep in mind that this is the UPSC, and the line between arrogance and self-confidence is narrow.
