Cricket News - Jos Buttler can see the shades of MS Dhoni in youngster Sam Curran

England’s stand-in captain Jos Buttler has recently shared a secret about youngster Sam Curran. He said that he saw shades of the ‘great finisher’ Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Sam Curran after his important 95-run unbeaten knock in the third ODI which eventually went in vain as India clinched the ODI series 2-1 by winning the third and decider match on Sunday.

In a thrilling series decider, Curran, while coming out to bat at number 8, led the team and bounced back well after they were reduced to 200 runs for seven wickets to revive their hopes of chasing down 330 but eventually they fell short by seven runs as well.

With the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner which is beginning on April 9, Buttler believes Sam Curran, who plays in the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, will have a great opportunity to talk about this innings to the former India captain as well.

“I’m sure Sam would want to talk to MS about tonight’s innings,” Buttler said at the virtual post-match news conference. “I’m sure there were shades of the way that he (MS Dhoni) would have liked to take the game down if he was in that situation. He’s a great person for Sam to have a conversation with when he meets up MS (in the IPL).”

Apart from him, England all-rounder Moeen Ali will also play for CSK in the IPL 2021.

“We know what an amazing cricketer, finisher MS Dhoni is. A brilliant learning curve for all our players to share dressing rooms with guys like MS’ stature in the game. I’m very excited for them,” he said further.

The world champions, England had chased down a total of 337 runs in 43.3 overs in the second ODI and successfully levelled the series and Jos Buttler said that the 330-run target was a manageable one but they failed to make any partnership in between.

“Small, small things could have done better. I think with the ball we were not quite as disciplined as we have been early on. We gave them a few too many easy boundary balls. They didn’t have to work too hard for those boundaries, but then we pegged back pretty well with spinners picking up those wickets,” he concluded.
