When I first started with the Goldshell KD2 I didn't really understand how well it would hold until the weather. The name of this item implies it's waterproof so that this was only a concern for me; however after obtaining a good rainfall and a little bit of finish it was that my outside KP had no problem with the weather order Goldshell KD5. Even when it rained for most of the day I managed to go outdoors, wear my ghillie suit and head outside into no-rain terrain without any problems at all. It's important to get some kind of outdoor irrigation coating if you live in an area such as mine where it circulates throughout the wintermonths, and keeping heat can mean the difference between an enjoyable day on the lake or spending the entire evening indoors with all the windows open and the heater on.
My KP was watertight because it has a built-in seal. At the bottom of the shell are all drainage channels that let water run away easily and keep out the elements. These channels aren't quite as strong as they seem, which is why I've noticed a few leaking. I have also noticed that it is a little bit difficult to get the seal to completely dry. Aside from that, I have had no problems so far, and I have not used any kind of powders or cleaners to help keep it looking its best either.
The way it holds the odor is somewhat different than some other brands. A good deal of these sprays and powder cleansers appear to leave a greasy residue behind. Not with Goldshell. The scent just slides off. I love the way it smells too; it makes me want to grab and kiss my husband. It does smell a bit like dog food, and that's why I prefer it on a number of the others available on the current market, but I could understand why someone might prefer it over others.
Another quality which makes Goldshell good is the fact that it's totally waterproof. To test this I took it out into the pool and then tried it in my wrist. It's completely water-resistant and does not even have a slight wetness when you put it on. I've also taken it in to the restroom and while the water isn't that chilly it is still easy to wade in. If you are using it in the shower, however, ensure that you have an anti-bacterial lotion or gentle soap hand to help moisturize your skin in addition to maintain the shower screen from getting wet.
It's a lightweight design that makes it perfect for any location. You can pack it up and move anywhere. The weight is ideal, because you will not feel like you're dragging something about all of the time. While it's good all around, there are a couple downsides that I discovered. Like I said, it is fully waterproof but so is that the Goldshell Wo2 that has slightly more durability and gives a little better resistance to water. It is not by any means a failure but it isn't super-comfortable either. It's vital to be certain your boots are made of a fantastic material to ensure that they're fully waterproof and will hold up as well as they can.
