Most visits to Almaty are trouble-free. However, mugging and theft occur in cities and rural areas. Road conditions are generally considered to be poor, especially outside the capital and are subject to poor weather which increases the risk of an incident. Additionally driving standards are not considered to be of a high level which dramatically increases the risk of an incident.
