Ways to Stay Safe Around Power Equipment
Safety is a part of every job, but it's especially important when working with or around potentially stimulated electrical equipment.
Each calendar year, approximately 1, 000 people die in accidents regarding electricity.
More than half of the deaths occurred where the voltage was not as much as 600 V. Under the ideal conditions, as little as 50 V is usually fatal.
This article briefly examines several of the approaches that can become taken to minimize the hazards involved in working together with electricity.

Use Lockout/Tagout Methods
The best way in avoiding being injured in an electric accident is to de-energize this circuit. If the routine is de-energized, there will be no voltage source, and also the possibility of shock or maybe electrocution is eliminated.
The U. S. Occupational Safety and Wellness Administration (OSHA) requires a process known as lockout/Tagout.
This method is used to ensure that once a circuit has been de-energized, it cannot be reenergized devoid of the knowledge and permission in the person who established the lockout/Tagout.
Lockout involves placing a lock on the part of the machines that controls energy, thus locking the energy control device while in the off position.
Any kind of lock work extremely well, but the lock should serve no other reason.
A tag is subjected to the device to indicate who's is de-energized. Tags could be attached by hand, but they can't be reused.
They may be self-locking but must require at least 50 pounds of strength for being released.
Paragraph 3 regarding the Canadian Electrical Code 2-304 describes the lockout/Tagout requirements in Canada.
Take Emergency ActionsDamage that will equipment and property is secondary when human life is involved.
Therefore, if emergency conditions a result of faulty electrical equipment come to the forefront, they must be addressed from the following order: Extinguish any threat to be able to human safety or human life after which you can address threats to equipment along with other materials.
Human involvement: When a person becomes the journey of least resistance for a power current, that person must first be separated from the source of voltage. This can be best accomplished by turning heli-copter flight power to the routine involved. Opening a circuit breaker and also throwing a switch can be all that is recommended.
However, if the circuit can not be de-energized within a while, the person must be taken off contact with the source.
Under no circumstances if you ever, the rescuer, attempt to touch those receiving the shock. You too could become a part of the circuit.
Instead, use an insulating material such as dry wood or waterless rope to push or pull anybody away from contact while using energized equipment.
Once the individual has been separated from the energy source, first aid measures need to be taken.
The first step would be to call for help. Use a nearby phone to call 911 or other suitable emergency contact number. Generally, the person’s heart stops because of the electric shock.
When this happens, properly qualified personnel should start CPR instantly. If there is proof of thermal burns, these will also have to be treated by experienced personnel.
