Alaska Peninsula Brown Bear Hunting

The Alaskan Peninsula close to Cold Bay is where you come to hunt the giant Alaskan Peninsula brown bear. This is an area that predators hunt only in even-numbered spring years. It is the best place for trophy brown bears in Alaska. The site is just as good, if not better than Kodiak Island for giant coastal brown bears.

The Aleutian Range has incredible 4000-foot peaks known as the Cathedral Mountains that rise from the shores of the sea, making it the perfect backdrop for seeing giant coastal brown bears. In these two units (9E and D), the brown bear can grow to more than 11 feet square with a skull of more than 30 inches.

The Alaskan Brown Bear Hunts by boat are performed under the opinion of skilled Rafters, in which only a super cub with large tundra tires is reached. Outfitters constantly check their camps and moving ahead as the situation changes. As the winter loosens its grip and the snow melts, the bears will come out of their dens. Outfitters are constantly looking for such activities and organizing camps accordingly.

Along with the base camp located near the Bering Sea, hunters also search the beaches in search of dead whales or walruses that wash ashore during spring break. Brown bears, wolves, and wolverines come to eat these carcasses.

Big bears move from the mountains to lower elevations in search of food and females. Spring brings lots of hustle and excitement to the air gives the hunters plenty of show! Often you will see big deer chase small deer, and adults sit up and down the mountain to occupy their domains.

FALL HUNTS

If you like hunting in the fall and are really after the ten-foot brown bear, you can consider the brown bear hunting area in Unit 9E close to Port Heiden. For this hunt, you will go from Anchorage to Port Heiden via Pen Air Flight. Hunting in this area is carried out from October 1 to 25 odd-numbered years.

Over the years, many adventure hunters have also hunted Caribou while brown bear hunting in Alaska by boat. Hunters in this area look for more than 9 feet of brown bears that can weigh up to 1400 pounds.

In guided hunting, all camping equipment, all food/water, shelter, cooking tools, and anything required for hunting is provided by Outfitters except personal gear and weapons and ammo of the hunter.

Hunting is done mainly in rivers and lowlands of rivers, filled with returning sockeye and silver salmon. Brown bears eat salmon to put on the necessary weight needed to go into hibernation. After swallowing, bears lay in thick elders, which then become places where hunters can camp.

These bedding areas have proved very productive over the years as brown bears move away from rivers.

The hunters will prevent the bear from moving into their feeding grounds. The average day for a brown bear eating salmon is spent sitting on the banks of the river. While doing so, odor control is essential!

There is nothing like hearing a splash from a big brown bear chasing salmon in the river because it is about to walk around the corner you are sitting on - to erect the hair on the back of your neck and pay attention!
