Overcoming the Fear of Facing the Camera For the First Time

Facing the camera for the first time is always a nerve-wracking moment. You are nervous, anxious and have all of your fear about what is about to come. You do not want it to go wrong. But sometimes we forget about our fears and anxiety and things go pear shaped. We do not know what to expect or how to react.

The first time you are faced with the camera, you may be overly excited or may even feel panicky. But do not let that stop you. It is good practice to get ready for the camera. If you have been to a photography class or looked at any of the photography books then you probably have a fair idea about what to expect. In most cases they will tell you to just relax and try not to be nervous, but in some cases it is a lot more serious than that.

The first thing you need to do is to just sit still and look into the camera. Don't move and try to compose yourself. Remember you are being filmed for entertainment purposes. You are not trying to act. So don't play around. Just try to picture the scene as if you were watching the film instead of actually being there

As you approach the photographer, say hello and ask them if you can take a picture of them. This is really important, because you will get the chance to meet a lot of people during your trip. Most people will be happy to pose for you because they want to see the photographer and other guests get the chance to see them up close.

After saying hi and posing for the photographer, go ahead and take the picture. Do not worry if you do not like the shot. They will usually have plenty of ideas to improve it. And besides, even if you do not like the result, at least you got your first experience in getting a photo taken. Some people might be disappointed with the result, but at least you did something to improve your photography skills.

One thing you will probably notice as you are standing with the photographer is that everyone is rushing towards you, trying to get a good shot. This is totally natural. As photographers, we have to do this quite often. It is our job to get all the photos we can from people. People tend to walk towards us when they want to get a good photo.

Once you get that first picture, keep on moving. Keep your arms at full length. This means you should keep all your fingers together. This helps build your confidence as you are getting more shots. Remember to smile every once in a while.

The last piece of advice I can give you before you go up to the shot is to think about your positioning. Many people just point their camera at the subject without thinking about their body positioning. They will usually shoot with their shoulders and head in the front. This results in shots that look like they were taken at different angles. Your photographer is going to be watching every part of you. Make sure you pay attention to your positioning as you prepare for your first photo shoot.

Be sure to take a few practice shots before you go up to the pole. You want to be comfortable and relaxed before you take your first shot. You can also practice on your own by mounting the tripod and looking through the viewfinder. You should have your camera ready to go before you even turn around to take the shot. Take plenty of practice shots beforehand to get the feeling for the whole scene.

Your first look is going to be nervous. Don't be intimidated by it. Think about this, many people get their first big break by stepping into a new profession. They face their fear of failure by figuring out how to overcome their own anxiety. If you want to succeed in your photography, you need to overcome your fears.

Remember to have fun while facing the camera for the first time. Remember how much fun you had when you were younger just looking through the viewfinder. This will make your first experience much more enjoyable.
