There is little denying the fact that one of the most popular adventure activities in the world is diving. Diving is an extra ordinary experience and it is multi-faceted. Not only does it give you the adrenaline rush (if you are an adrenaline junkie) but it enables you to visit a world that is utterly mesmerizing and that which is not visited often by people on the surface- the majestic world of the underwater. Diving is a spectacular phenomenon and everybody should at least once in their life experience the process of diving.

The most important and essential thing to know about diving is that you do not need to know how to swim. Yes, you heard it right. Swimming is not a pre-requisite skill for diving. However, you will need training and substantial amount of practice before you make your first dive. The important first step is to know what the entire process entails and what all can you expect once you make the dive.

Secondly, you need to have an understanding of the apparatus and equipment which is at your disposal. You need to know the basics and also how to handle the same. You will also have to learn to control your breathing. This is a very important consideration when you are diving. You will be made to give special emphasis on the regulation of breathing and internalization of the same underwater, so that when push comes to shove, you are easily able to handle it, almost as smoothly as if it were an involuntary action of your body.

A major aspect of pre-requisite knowledge before your first dive is learning the underwater signs. This is absolutely important. There are different sings (hand signs) via which you communicate with your instructor of peers or other divers when you are under water since there is no other way of communication or verbal communication. And communication is required (at least some basic level of communication) for safety purpose; suppose your equipment is not working, suppose you are not feeling okay or feeling okay, etc. These are required from safety point of view and hence it is important that you learn them properly.

Then there is predive hear check. This is again a very important aspect of consideration just before you make your first dive. You have to see and make sure that your gear is functioning perfectly as it should. This mean that you have to know the nitty-gritty of the equipment at your disposal.
