When the fans returned to the Principality Stadium, Taine Basham came off the bench and scored two goals on his debut, helping defending Guinness Six Nations champions Wales beat Canada 68-12.

Wales had 10 tries in a game they had dominated from the start but there was a disadvantage in the game as defender Leigh Halfpenny suffered a knee injury and looked terrible.

A knee injury forced the Halfpenny off the field two minutes later when he stepped on a Canadian player. Wales appeared confused after being lifted by a stretcher as the Canadian team opened the scoring.

Kainoa Lloyd (Kainoa Lloyd) hit the ground in the bottom corner after the Canadian kept pressing for some time, leaving plenty of room for fast wingers to score.

The conversion was missed and Wales countered a few minutes later when Tomos Williams tapped and quickly walked away from the penalty, using some defocused Canadian defensive conversion attempts.

OUTSTANDING OFFLOADS

After Jonathan Davies' excellent offload in the tackle, Wales took second through James Botham, which clearly enabled the flanker players to rush to the try line.

Nick Tompkins then produced his own superb offload, as Wales got their third through Jonah Holmes.

Wales led 26-5. Elliot Dee tried before Nicky Smith chose and started from behind a ruck when he broke into the paint from 5 yards and was the first receiver.

At the end of halftime, Will Rowlands hit a good ball, passed Williams, and broke through the gap to score, the result was 40-5.

BASHAM’S VISION DEBUT

After halftime, Tompkins' excellent release caused Williams to give up on his second attempt in the afternoon, and Basham brilliantly completed his first attempt to avoid two defenders and take a corner for the Wales team.

Basham got his second shortly after a lineout, but after Cooper Coats forcibly broke through the Wales defense and scored for the Canadians' second attempt, Canada could finally smile.

Then, in the final game of the game, Ben Thomas passed a floating pass to Holmes and scored his second game to end the game.

Wales captain Jonathan Davies said: "The first half of the game was turbulent, we played really well, and we put in some good stuff.

"There's still a lot of work to be done, but it's a great opportunity for the boys playing for the first time. It's a good start for the series."

"We asked the other side to meet the standards of the rugby test match, and the new hat made it. The boys have put in a lot of effort, but next week will be a good test. I'm looking forward to the test in Argentina.

"Canada's physical condition is very good. They tested us when they failed. The situation in Argentina could be even more similar next week. They are a great team.

"I'm not sure how bad Leigh Halfpenny's injury is. I hope he can recover quickly because it's never good to see someone disappointed, especially a good friend like Leigh, he deserves better."
