Advantages & Disadvantages of Online Learning

E-learning has become a need of the hour during the pandemic, and for most students, it's a new way of getting an education. Before taking up a course and deciding whether it's worthwhile or not, students want to know the advantages and disadvantages of online learning. Though there are more advantages, it's better to be aware of the few weaknesses to work around them to complete the course successfully.

Advantages

1. Convenience- Attending online classes from the luxury of your home and without the worry of travel expenses is a big deal for students. The course material and reference sources are available online at any given point, and that gives you the freedom to choose a study time of your convenience.

2. Personal Attention- Students who say, 'I want to pay someone to do my online class' can keep their fear at bay, as there is no peer pressure involved. Online classes eliminate the fear of asking a query in class amidst fellow students. You can reach out to your instructor personally via emails for any clarifications on the subject.

3. Networking- Students thrive on social networks, and the same applies to online learning. Though the teaching is remote, you will get an opportunity to get in touch with your peers for group projects and discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms. Reaching out to classmates via a mailing list will help you better understand subjects or share doubts regarding course material.

4. Financial Benefits- As opposed to traditional learning, e-learning has brought down many expenses that one usually incurred. Travelling expenses, along with the vehicle's wear and tear costs, is zero. Additionally, the course material and other resources get provided online.

5. Real-World Skills- Online learning teaches discipline, dedication, and punctuality and helps you be a self-motivated person with excellent time management skills. When you apply for jobs in the real world after completing your course, these skills will prove to be very handy.

Disadvantages

1. Procrastination- If you give in to the comfort and the convenience of online learning, you may stray away from your objectives and forget essential deadlines. Of course, you can always hire a class taker online to manage your homework.

2. Isolation- Studying all by yourself may get very depressing at times, especially if you are a social person. You may need to reach out to your peers to get a sense of community.

3. Internet Connectivity Issue- One of the significant issues of e-learning is a bad internet connection. Since all information is available online, an internet shutdown puts an end to learning for that time.

4. Distraction- The freedom of learning at one's leisure may lead to students getting distracted by other social media platforms, spending hours watching TV or playing games. The distractions may cause a delay in keeping up with the coursework and completing assignment deadlines.
