What is A Mental Healthcare Plan? Information and Support from the Life Resolutions Team

At Life Resolutions, we believe that the key to empowerment is education, so we’re committed to ensuring everyone has all the information they need in order to make the best decisions for their health and happiness.

Today, we’re here with a FAQ on how a mental healthcare plan can help you improve your mental health and wellness.

What is a mental healthcare plan?

Simply put, a mental healthcare plan is a guide for the support and treatment of someone experiencing mental health concerns. It is usually created by your GP and outlines your mental health goals and the steps you can take towards achieving them.

A mental healthcare plan will often include a referral to a psychologist or other mental health professional. Everyone who has a mental healthcare plan is entitled to a Medicare rebate for twenty sessions per year with a psychologist. You won’t receive all of these sessions at once – you’ll stay in touch with your GP to discuss how you’re going, and they will refer you for more sessions if needed.

Who can get a mental healthcare plan?

Anyone can get a mental healthcare plan! Even if you don’t have a diagnosed condition like anxiety or depression, staying mentally healthy and well is important. If you’re struggling with issues like stress, family conflict, or other concerns, a mental healthcare plan can help guide your care and treatment.

How can I get a mental healthcare plan?

The first step is to speak to your regular GP. They will know what a mental healthcare plan is and be able to guide you towards choosing a psychologist to best meet your needs. They might also ask you other questions about your health. If you’re feeling nervous about chatting to your doctor, don’t worry! Doctors see people for mental healthcare plans all the time, and they’ll be able to provide you with some extra support.

Who can I see with my mental healthcare plan?

At Life Resolutions, our experienced psychologists offer rebates for individuals with mental healthcare plans. That means that Medicare will cover part of the cost of your psychology appointments.

Our Life Resolutions mental healthcare plan rebate is $87.45 for sessions with our General Psychologists. You’ll get this money back after your session through Medicare.
