Accepting And Dealing With Change

Change is inevitable, and a part of life and the human experience. However, many people struggle to cope with the changes they experience throughout their life, and when sudden life events occur, their inability to manage this change in a healthy way can grain on their mental health and manifest in a range of psychological issues.

At Life Resolutions, our team of psychologists are experienced in assisting people who are struggling with any changes they may be confronting. This support is critical now, as the people around the world are facing extreme changes to their normal way of life as a result of the global pandemic and the carnage it has reaped. Therefore, anyone feeling the pressure of change should not feel alone, there are people out there going through the same struggle, and there is help available.

Mary Magalotti And Jodie Brenton On Adjustment Disorder

Adjustment disorder is when a person experiences a range of symptoms after experiencing a stressful life event. A person may have adjustment disorder when, instead of adapting healthily to the change, they encounter new difficulties that impact on their ability to function in everyday life. This is a common response after a person has fa sudden life event or during peak times in significant life transitions like after finishing studies, when hitting ‘milestone’ ages and during career transitions.

Whilst adjustment disorder can manifest differently for each person, some common symptoms include:

  • Partaking in reckless behaviour
  • Feelings of hopelessness and sadness
  • Feeling more emotional and crying regularly
  • Feelings of stress, depression or anxiety
  • Self-isolation
  • Decreases in self-esteem and self-worth

Mary Magalotti and Jodie Brenton have both experiences the difficult changes that life provides and understand the critical need to develop healthy mechanisms to deal with such change. Therefore, Life Resolutions offers services to help people develop such practices, as well as to enable them to overcome the symptoms of Adjustment Disorder.
