The typical starting dosage for adults is 2.5 mg, taken every 8 to 12 hours. Your doctor may gradually increase your dosage every 3 to 5 days or more.
Dosage for detoxification of opioid addiction
The typical starting dosage is 20 mg to 30 mg. After 2 to 4 hours, your doctor may give you an additional 5 mg to 10 mg.
The typical dosage for short-term detoxification is 20 mg, taken twice daily for 2 to 3 days. Your doctor will gradually reduce your dosage while closely monitoring you.
The maximum dosage on the first day should not exceed 40 mg.
What to avoid while using methadone?
Do not consume alcohol while using methadone. Dangerous side effects or death may occur.
Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication will affect you. Dizziness or extreme drowsiness can result in falls, accidents, or serious injuries.
Grapefruit may interact with methadone, resulting in undesirable side effects. Avoid using grapefruit products during treatment with methadone.
