The view of the family pet dragging its butt on the carpet can be comical, but your dog is doing it as more than a way to get attention. There are several reasons for this discomfort as a normal itching. However, your dog’s anal glands can bother you.
Misconceptions
Some people think that your dog has to drag her behind on the floor to relieve anal itching, but in some cases dogs may have inflammation of the anal glands problems that needs to be emptied. The anal glands are located just below your dog's tail and above his rectum. The glands are normally emptied when the dog defecates. But in some cases, the process is hindered by an infection or irregular bowel movements, and your dog needs help to drain the glands.
Side Effects
If the dog continues to drag her anus on the floor, they can develop skin damage or cracks, which can lead to infection. Considerations
The dog Shih Tzu require more attention than other breeds and may need help to empty the glands. Another sign of swollen glands includes, but is not limited to, biting and excessive anus licking and tail chasing.

If your dog's glands are particularly inflamed, your vet may require an internal evacuation, which involves a vet inserting a finger or instrument into your dog's anus.
