Hello Toronto! It looks like we are having another lockdown. To cope with the pandemic, working from home seems to be a discipline that many companies have catered towards to take the needed safety precautions. As great as it sounds to be in your pajama bottoms, close to your bed and spending more time with the fur babies, working from home does take a mental and physical toll on you after an extended period of time. Some of the members of our teams have another job besides working for The Social Blend and can definitely testify to this. We thought it would be a good idea to share some tips and tricks to help you cope with the lack of motivation that working from home may seem to provide.

1. Switch Up Your Morning Routine

Everyone needs a little rhythm in their lives. A morning routine doesn’t have to be extremely intricate or planned to the T. The goal of a morning routine is to help start your day off right with a healthy mindset. Go through your morning habits like you would for the office. However, shake it up a bit by incorporating bits and pieces of new habit changes overtime. As simple as trying new breakfast recipes, different coffees, writing down your gratitude keeps the motivation going. It also helps keep a positive outlook of your current situation and goals for the future.

One thing that really helped some members of our team is exercising in the morning. There are many quick 15-30 minute fitness videos and challenges that are accessible, and can be done in the comfort of your own home. Keeping the blood flowing helps to stay focus and complete other tasks for the day at hand.  Simply focusing on healing, or a fitness routine helps set a tone for how you feel about yourself. In addition, it gives you a sense of being more productive in your space.

2. Make Time for Breaks Outside

Take quick breaks throughout the day. Working from home gives you the freedom to stop, reflect and reset to stay productive. Breaks creates a good pace to help ease your mind, which will help with the likeliness of burnout. For some of your breaks, take a short walk outside to get some fresh air. A change in environment will help you recharge. In addition, the subtle aspects of the outdoors such as sunshine, greenery and chirping birds, will help ease stress. In addition, give some more attention to your favourite fur baby. After all, they contribute to a big portion of your happiness while staying indoors.

3. Set Ground Rules with People Around You

One of struggles of working from home is having to adapt your work life to those who are living with you. They may not understand the concept of working from home and still take your presence as availability. For example, if you are still living with your parents, give them an idea of what you can and cannot do during your working hours. (You cannot leave the house to help buy groceries, or get take out in the middle of working.) Help those who are sharing your spaces with be more aware about boundaries.

4. Invest in Comfortable Equipment

Besides shopping for comfortable joggers, sweats and pajama bottoms, invest in comfortable equipment for your home office. Your workspace is where you’ll be spending a lot of your time during the week. Take care of your health and body by investing into the right equipment. Such as, a comfortable ergonomic chair will help you concentrate and help you back. If you don’t enjoy sitting down for extended periods of time, try investing into a standing desk. In addition, switching between a standing and sitting workspace may help you feel more productive.
