A hotel needs good staff, a good central reservation system, excellent housekeeping, beautiful gardens, special offers, extra little treats for the guests to make them feel VIP, a good follow up service, and in general, efficiency in a personal manner. A guest who walks into a hotel expects to be greeted in a friendly manner. They expect the booking to be found immediately and the key card or keys to be handed over efficiently. The room should be ready and gorgeous! And the in house service, exceptional. Even if you are a small guesthouse, you need to go the extra mile to keep your guests happy and to ensure they come back and recommend you to others.

All the above seems expensive

You might be thinking all the above sounds perfect but, it can be costly going the extra mile. Firstly, put in a CRS. Having a hotel central reservation system means you can run efficiently from the start. Your staff will be happy and so will your clients. Then, the money you would normally spend on an old fashioned booking system can now be used for other aspects of your hotel. The small bouquet in each room, the chocolate on the pillow, the smile from housekeeping, the excellent service in the dining area, the fresh croissants at breakfast, you get the drift! Also, spend the money on training your staff. The more you train and uplift your staff, the more you get out of them. Training is always an important thing to do - your hotel is only as good as the people who work in it.
