STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO START LEARNING PROGRAMMING

Step 1:

DEFINE YOUR GOALS: WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO LEARN ABOUT PROGRAMMING?

It is important to establish your goals and the skill sets that you want to master before you begin coding. Why do you want to learn to program? Do you want to get exposure, gain data analytics knowledge, learn, or prepare for university?

Step 2.

THIS SECTION IS CRITICAL AND WILL BE EXPLAINED AND EXPANDED UPON BELOW.

There are so many programming languages available. How do you choose the right one to start with? I would recommend choosing the programming language that best suits your goals. What are you trying to accomplish by learning to program? Based on these goals, I’ve compiled a list below of languages you can learn.

This disclaimer is required before I discuss these programming languages.

It’s not that one language is better than another.

Yes, developers should learn more than one language.

The main idea behind my argument is that you should first learn one language.

These are the top five most commonly used languages according to a survey done by stack overflow in 2019.

You could start with any one of the five languages listed above. The recommendations below are my opinion.

Python is the best programming language to learn if you are looking for Data Analytics, Machine Learning, or simply for fun.

Python is an easy-to-use, powerful, and versatile language that I highly recommend.

You can create web applications, data analytics, machine learning models, financial models and even games.

Each language has its pros and cons. You can still learn a new language by simply switching between them.

There are many excellent libraries in Python. Libraries are codes created by others to accomplish a specific function. You don’t have to program many abstract functions, as they are easily found online.

Step 3:

CREATE A PROJECT THAT PUTS WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED INTO PRACTICE

You cannot absorb the concept by just watching videos. It is important to actually put the concepts into practice. You can do this by coming up with projects.

You can have a great idea for a project or a problem that you’d like to solve using coding.

If you don’t have a list of beginner-friendly projects, I have created one.
