Dr. Monica Wehby is the internationally acclaimed Pediatric Neurosurgeon specialist in Portland. Being in practice for more than 20 years, she has much more experience than any other specialist in her area. She obtained her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1984. She is also an alumni of the University of Notre Dame. After completing her medical degree, she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at a Primary Children’s Hospital at the University of Utah after completing her residency in Neurosurgery at the University of California.

The educational background of Monica Wehby clearly shows that she used to be a bright scholar. She started her Neurosurgical career in Portland, Oregon as a partner at Micro Neurosurgical consultants. She also served as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Randall’s Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. Being an excellent surgeon, she has done remarkable work in the field of pediatric neurosurgery. She is an expert in spina bifida and tethered cord.

Various Positions Monica Wehby Held

Dr. Monica Wehby is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She returned to her hometown after gaining experience to join Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine. Over the years, she has held various leadership and board positions at local, state, and even national levels. In 2011 she held the position of Trustee of the American Medical Association 2011, President of both the Oregon Medical Association and the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland, Northwest Regional Director of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and Board member Ronald McDonald House Charities. Back in 2014, she became the Republican Nominee for US Senate in Oregon. At that time, she wished to leave medicine for the political world. But results were not in her favor, so she continued her practice to benefit more children.

Dr. Monica Wehby has helped thousands of children worldwide to lead healthy life. She has the license to practice medicine in three US states: Oregon, Indiana, and Nebraska. She is also certified by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. Her clinical interests lie in the following: hydrocephalus, craniofacial reconstruction, neonatal surgery, congenital anomalies, and child abuse.

She is currently associated with three medical centers:

  • Legacy Emanuel Medical Center,
  • Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, and
  • Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center.

In 2015, Dr. Monica Wehby joined the Oregon State of Reform Conference, where she expressed her concerns over the top-down approach to regulate health care. She talked on various topics where she urged the leaders to come forward and consider the doctor-patient relationship primarily in decision making and the importance of consumer choice. She firmly believes that bureaucratic regulations regarding care and coverage have taken medicine out of the doctors and patients. She believes that it is the responsibility of influential people to make the change. In several interviews, Monica Wehby has stated that she chose a medical career to make life better for others. She has redefined the face of Pediatric Neurosurgery with her dedication, hard work, and improving child care health.
