All You Need To Know About PMKK

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) started the establishment of state of the art, modern training centres known as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK). These training centres aim to provide the youth with vocational training to increase their chances of getting employment opportunities.

What are the objectives of PMKK?

These modern training centres have a vision to

  • To showcase a value in development training that is based on competency by creating a benchmark in institutions.
  • Ensure the delivery of good quality while providing the youth of India with skills training.
  • Transform into a sustainable institutional model.

The standardization of skill development related to jobs is what the PMKK aims to do. The aim of the MSDE is to set up skill development training centers in every district. NSDC has partnered with AISECT  for the setup of 23 training centers in four clusters in two states, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. These clusters are MP-1, MP-9, CG-3 and CG-4 which have a total of 23 districts. Hence, a total target of 23 PMKKs have been allotted to AISECT.

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana initiative has taken the lead on setting up these PMKKs. The PMKVY initiative was established by the Government of India. It is a skill development initiative for the standardization and recognition of skills that can help one find employment. It was the main scheme launched by the MSDE in 2015. The PMKVY helps young people in rural areas find the knowledge and resources they need to find employment. This scheme not only helps the rural people stay inspired and motivated but also helps the economy of the country. India is overall a very young country, with most of the population falling between the ages of 15-59, which is the employable age. A lot of these employable young people fail to find jobs because they do not know how to go about it. A scheme like PMKVY aims to support them till they can find employment.

Under this scheme, the youth are trained for both public and private sector jobs in training centres which are PMKKs. Very strict guidelines are followed to ensure that the training is of good quality. The skills training courses ensure that the youth of India has a better future while also making the future of the country brighter. To further encourage the youth to enrol for these courses, the entire fee of the assessment and the training is covered by the government of India. This is an added benefit for people who come from poor backgrounds.

Additionally, there are awards and recognition for the individuals who already have some amount of the skill that they are aiming to perfect. This is very encouraging for the youth. In order to apply for the scheme, an individual must be a citizen of the country and between the ages of 15-59. The initiative ensures that the enrolled individuals receive the highest quality of training since it is very important to keep the rural youth motivated. A large number of employable and motivated individuals are found in rural areas which is why it is important to provide them with the skills needed for them to find a good job.

AISECT has been partnered with NSDC to make sure that this happens. The basic aim of the scheme is to make sure that the rural youth find jobs that give them access to a stable income, which is more than that earned by the daily wage worker. To fully use the benefits of such a young workforce, the government needs to train them well. The programs for the training are made in accordance with the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the packs are developed in many different sectors. AISECT has been the main driving force behind the scheme.

The first step is to find a training centre and to find out if the skill that the individual is interested in is taught in that particular centre. After this, the individual can start their registration process. Immediately after the registration process is completed, the individual can start their training. Once the individual learns the skill entirely, he or she can get assessed. After the assessment, if the individual is successful, he or she would be granted certification.

Once the certification is received, the individual can be employed immediately after. AISECT, partnered with NSDC makes sure that the individual is supported till they can find employment. The scheme supports and provides placement assistance to every individual enrolled in the initiative. Over 10 million people in India so far have benefited from this scheme, and the aim is to keep increasing that number. AISECT is proud to be a part of such an initiative.
