Types of Release Coating

If you work with a lot of metal machinery, you are likely familiar with release coating. Release coating is a type of chemical coating that can be applied to metals to help reduce friction between moving parts and increase the durability of metal surfaces. Both of these functions serve to prolong the service life of industrial equipment to which release coating is applied.

There are many different varieties of release coating, each with its own unique applications and features.

Fluoroclad 5

Fluoroclad 5 is a type of release coating that is very useful in both the industrial sector and in the food industry. It uses a four coat water based dispersion system that includes a titanium reinforced matrix. Fluoroclad 5 is highly heat resistant, and can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees fahrenheit. It also has significant non-stick properties that make it very easy to clean.

Fluoroclad 6 (FEP)

Fluoroclad 6, or FEP, is a release coating that is highly sought after for industrial applications that require high abrasion resistance. It is a two coat system that has a very low coefficient of friction, which is what gives it its anti-abrasion properties. Fluoroclad 6 is not quite as heat resistant as fluoroclad 5, but can still withstand temperatures as high as 450 degrees fahrenheit.

Fluoroclad 7 (PTFE)

Fluoroclad 7, commonly known as PTFE, is a release coating that is used most often for cookware and bakeware. PTFE is a three coat system with outstanding non-stick properties, a high level of durability, and substantial heat resistance. It can withstand a continuous temperature of 500 degrees fahrenheit. Between its heat resistance and non-stick properties, PTFE is a natural fit for the food industry.

No matter what your industry, if you work with equipment made of metal, there is likely a release coating that could be used to make your job easier and more efficient.
