Rory McIlroy discloses CJ Cup win was inspired by the pain of the Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy said he almost took a vacation for the rest of 2021 after fraught the European Ryder Cup loss. The 32-year-old Northern Irishman changed his mind and won the CJ Cup in Las Vegas on Sunday, winning his 20th PGA Tour Championship. This is his first game since his 19-9 defeat to the United States in the Whistler Strait in September. The Ryder Cup fans can buy Ryder Cup Tickets from our website.

The invention in the Whistler Strait was McIlroy's comforting win over Xander Schauffele when the US team was close to winning. This was his only run in the four Ryder Cup matches that weekend. He burst into tears in a post-singles interview, saying he should 'do more for the team'.

However, McIlroy recovered with a win that took him to eighth in the world rankings, and it was an exciting reminder that he has the great talent to help him win four main titles.

Asked if his poor Ryder Cup performance motivated him to win again, McIlroy told the Golf Channel: "This is really huge, I'm very disappointed with my performance."

"Here's what I have to do. I have to play golf, simplify it and be myself, since then there has been a lot of thought in the last some weeks.

McIlroy scored 66 under par in the final round and went on to take a single win with 25 under par, making him the 39th player to win 20 PGA Tour titles.

He was behind by 9 shots after 36 holes, but shot an excellent 62 on Saturday and went into battle.

The Northern Irishman fell behind leader Rickie Fowler at the start of the second round on Sunday but caught 5 birdies and 1 eagle to take his second win in 2021. Open champion Collin Morikawa scored 62 without bogeys and finished second.

This is McIlroy's second title in 2021. He won the Wells Fargo Championship in May and it was a disappointing year for the former world number one. To win it's great and it feels very well.

“Yesterday Saturday, I hit 10 under par, but today I played a very solid round. I played very solid golf and kept birdie looks myself thank goodness.”

In the final round on Sunday, McIlroy shot a score of 33 under par on the first nine holes to hold up the chase. Push the par to the par-5 14 and move three clears.

Morikawa caught birdies in 8 of his first 11 holes and ended the game with an eagle, putting the ball in a hole on his lowest PGA Tour round.

However, McIlroy took care of his last four holes to ensure a one-stroke win at the Summit Club.
