When Can You Start Lifting Heavily After A Caesarean Section?

You shouldn't lift anything heavy for the first six weeks after the caesarean section, and unfortunately that includes your baby in the child car seat. Because both together are much heavier than the 5 kg that are now recommended as the upper limit. It is best to transport your child and the seat separately. Put the seat in the car first, then the baby. When you get out of the car, you can first put the baby in a sling or a baby carrier and leave the seat in the car or fetch it separately later.

You are also not allowed to lug full laundry baskets or even beverage crates, but you can divide their contents. For example, go several times with a lightly filled basket rather than just once with a full one. If you already have an older child who wants to be lifted, it is better to hug them while sitting or crouching - you can comfort them and give them security.

If you've long been feeling fit again after C-section recovery and the heavy lifting isn't causing any pain, it can be very tempting not to adhere to the six-week rule. The problem here, too, are so-called micro fissures, the finest cracks in the scar tissue, which later trigger adhesions and permanent pain in the lower abdomen in many women. So, it pays to have a few weeks of patience and take good care of yourself!
