Get on Your Pedals, Get Set, Go!

When your child is comfortable on the balance bike, all they have to do is learn to pedal - and they will probably get there in record time. If he hasn't tried the balance bike yet, don't worry - he'll do it anyway. Let's go.

Take the time to show the crank mechanism to your future cyclist. To do this, lift the rear wheel and move a pedal forward. You thus allow your young athlete to understand the interaction between the crankset and the wheels. Also demonstrate braking. After that, your child will probably want to try pedaling on their own.

Is your little champion a little nervous before the first attempts? Nothing more normal. Give him a sense of security by placing your relaxed hands on his shoulders or gently putting one hand behind the saddle as you walk beside him. With a little speed, the sense of balance quickly comes on its own.

The big moment is approaching! Once your child has mastered the pedaling and has a sense of balance, you can start withdrawing your hands for longer and longer until they are riding on their own. Keep walking alongside to help him stop or to hold him back in time and avoid a fall if he loses his balance.

After a few attempts, your child may try to stop on their own by operating the brake lever before putting their feet on the ground.
