Engineers Australia Competencies Stage 3 For Leadership And Management In Engineering

You have to prove your Engineers Australia competencies in Stage 3 to attain the post of Engineering Executive (EngExec). These competencies are for those individuals related to various leadership and various management positions.

This position raises the status of a leader and gives them the higher tier of the engineering industry. Achieving this post means that the eligibility of the candidate for chartered status in Management and Leadership increases.

The technical practice related to other chartered status increases to a large extent. The engineering leaders and managers can show their commitment to their job.  

There are 10 units of competencies, but we have provided you only 1 and 2 unit details (those shown in dots are indicative defining activities). So, keep reading till the end.

 

Unit 1 (Leadership)

  1. 1 Use personal attributes of leadership

 

  • Purpose and values are founded
  • Employment of creativity and innovation
  • Integrity, sincerity of purse and values are communication
  • Plus points of others are capitalized on
  • Teams and successfully made and led
  • Natural personal leadership type/style is identified
  • leadership style is tailored in harmony with the context
  • Use of written and oral skills
  • Employment of meditation and negotiation skills.

 1.2 Exercise leadership in companies

  • Vision for the company recognized and communicated
  • Conducting plans for strategy and actions and using them using recognized principles.
  • Use of creativity and innovation processes
  • A processing method is used in realizing and monitoring the progress of organizational targets.
  • Suitable organizational structures are used to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Identification and deployment of desired organizational values.
  • Proper selection and employment of leadership and management concepts, tools and techniques for the improvement of leadership, for example:

 Plans of strategy

Business plans

Plans to manage risks

Performance management

Management reviews

Reporting regimes

Corrective and preventive action

Reward systems

Training/educational requirements evaluations and delivery programs

 1.3 Appreciation of stakeholders

Requirements and expectations of stakeholders related to the business are recognized and dealt with regarding owners, employees, community and customers.

External factors are appreciated and properly dealt with, which includes regarding community, political, safety, environment and legislative/regulatory.

 1.4 Promotion of the engineering profession

 Engineering occupation is promoted

  • Professional leadership is shown
  • Profession development is advocated on behalf of Engineers Australia.

 1.5 Demonstration of creativity

  • Creativity is encouraged.
  • Management styles fostering creativity are chosen and used.
  • Different ways of being creative are used.
  • Contributions to creativity sessions.
  • Facilities are provided to innovation teams.
  • The inter-relationship between organizational structures and creativity is handled.
  • Staff are recruited and deployed for the promotion of creativity and innovation.

 1.6 Handle workplace change

  • Understanding of change is promoted.
  • Improvement and changes are planned and implemented.

 Unit 2 (Strategic Direction and Entrepreneurship)

 2.1 Offer strategic direction and show entrepreneurship

  • New business opportunities and ideas are recognized.
  • New business initiatives are supported.
  • Recognition and communication of strategic direction and targets regarding customers and suppliers.
  • Supporters and enterprises are recognized and selected, eg joint venture participants.
  • Contacts for the fruitful results of the business venture and recognized and realized.

 2.2  Accept new technology

 Ways to find new technology are used.

  • Adoption of new technology is assessed.
  • Introduction of new technology.

 2.3 Evaluation of feasibility

  • Comparison of possible ventures, which includes financial terms
  • Current value techniques are utilized.
  • Financial judgements are made

 2.4 Appreciation of risk

Recognition and appreciation of business risks.

2.5 Set up business financing

 Identification of finance sources for new ventures.

  • Finance is made secure.
  • Financing arrangements are assessed.

2.6 Identify the value of personal aspects

  • Promotion of the future outlook in staff.
  • Corporate core competencies are recognized and nurtured (corporate core competencies are a limited number of corporate capabilities that are given value by customers, are mutually reinforcing and hard to copy).

2.7 Found business structures

  • Recognition of new business structures
  • Identification of new business staffing
  • Identification of new business organizational processes.

 Engineers Australia Competencies for EngExec:

Standards of competencies that are related to the competencies are split into 10 units, and we have provided you here with the details of only the first two competencies.

These ten competencies are subdivided into many aspects of leadership, business and management. These 10 units are primarily supported by 50 elements. The elements are 195 indicative activities.  

 Due to this, those candidates, who are fulfilling these criteria, will show attainments of various competencies and substantial depth. However, the competency levels may not have all 50 elements. The breakdown of 10 units related to leadership into six elements. One of those elements related to six elements is 1.4 (engineering profession promotion) that can be subdivided into many defining activities.
