Importance of Long-tail Keywords in SEO

Focusing on long-tail keywords is a great SEO tactic. Long-tail keywords are keywords or keyphrases that are more specific tools- and often longer than the more commonly used keywords. Long-tail keywords generate less search traffic, but generally have a higher conversion value because they are more specific. They allow you to gradually get more traffic to your website and be found by a new and motivated audience. A long-tail keyword strategy can really help you when your market is very competitive. Or a lot of competition for the top keywords you want to rank for. That being said, most businesses or blogs can benefit from this strategy as it helps you attract visitors with very specific search intent. Here, I'll explain what long-tail keywords are and how understanding your mission and digital marketing training product can help you build a long-tail keyword strategy.

What Is it?

Long-tail keywords are more specific and less popular than other keywords. They focus more on a niche market. The longtail keyword comes from the book The Long Tail by Chris Anderson (see sidebar). In this book, Chris Anderson points out that there is a digital marketing course for almost any product. And while that market is really small in some cases, the sheer size of the internet still makes your niche product or blog post profitable.

Why is the LongTail Keyword Valuable?

  • Lower Competition

Long-tail keywords are much easier to rank for than short-tail keywords due to the relatively low level of competition. They also make up 70% of all web searches, so if you don't focus them on your strategy, you're missing out on a huge opportunity to generate quality traffic.

  • Better Conversion Rate

Long-tail keywords have better conversion rates because the people who use them know more about what they want. For example, when a person searches for "kids sneakers online," that person is more likely to buy immediately than someone who searches for "kids sneakers."

  • Increase Your Chances of Viewing Your Content

Whenever someone searches for a long-tail keyword,  modern Google search results are more personalized based on your location, age, gender, interests, surname, etc. This means that two users entering the same search term may see different results. Long-tail keywords can help optimize your website for different categories of searchers because they are more specific.
