Why Should Apple/iOS Developers Shift to Swift?

Let’s look at various other reasons that make shifting to Swift a good decision:

More Readable

Ever since its release, Swift has been touted as a better alternative to the more established programming languages, including Apple’s Objective C. Swift is safe to use and boasts a clean, simplified and approachable syntax. For instance, with Swift, there is no need to end statements with a semicolon, whereas forgetting to put semicolons causes errors in Objective C. There is also no need to use parentheses surrounding conditional expressions inside if/else statements. The code in Swift closely resembles words in English. This makes Swift easy to read and write. In fact, any developer who is already programming in JavaScript, Java, Python, C#, and C++ can easily adopt Swift. Businesses now prefer to hire iPhone app developers who have at least some expertise in Swift.

Less Code

Swift beats Objective C in the number of code lines that a developer needs to write to implement an option, which is a lot less in Swift than in Objective C. In Objective C, combing two pieces of information can be a tedious task, which is not the case in Swift. For instance, in Swift, developers can use a “+” operator to add two strings together. Swift offers inline support that manipulates text strings and data to minimize the chances of errors in Swift code.

It’s Safe

Developing a secure app is the topmost priority of an iPhone application developer. Swift is a more stable language than Objective C. Swift is a strongly typed language like Java, Ruby, and Python, which restricts the intermixing of values with different data types. This prevents false coding due to faulty inputs by the developer. Swift’s syntax and language were designed to eliminate several causes of errors that lead to problematic behavior and crashes, inevitable with Objective C. This ensures quality during app development.

It’s Fast

Swift allows developers to compile and fix errors while writing the code. This makes app development a better and faster process on Swift than on Objective C, by eliminating lengthy bug fixes.

Allows Experimentation

Apple created an initiative called “Everyone Can Code” as a new approach to coding that gives everyone the power to learn, write and teach code. The company offers Swift Playgrounds and has also built a "playground" mode inside Swift for that very purpose. Isolating the actual app, Swift playground allows developers to work on various app ideas and implement or ditch app ideas in no time.

Swift is here to stay. It can serve as both a forward-facing language as well as a server-side one. And, if Google adopts Swift for Android apps to be developed faster, using memory more efficiently, this can help Apple boost the language’s uptake, increasing the pool of iPhone app developer for hire.
