IOM 3 Membership Code of Conduct

The desire for IOM3 membership is gaining momentum all over the world. There are countless benefits of its membership.

However, being an IOM3 member comes with a huge responsibility of behaving ethically and in a particular way.

The Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining has made a code of professional conduct for its members and the general public to get its members to behave properly when performing their professional duties. There is a list of some professional ethical standards that an IOM3 member has to stick to.

It doesn’t matter what your grade is or the professional position in the country where you are working. Each member has to follow the specific rules of conduct.

These rules denote those basic things that those having IOM3 membership have to do. There are Policy Statement and Guidance Notes, where appropriate, covering the major professional activity areas that a member is like to be involved in and to help them understand and stick to the rules.

Any act going against any Policy Statements will lead to the breach of the Rule for Professional Conduct to which it applies. However, the member will not be held responsible for breaching the Rules for Professional Conduct only because of not sticking to a Guidance Note.

It may happen that most members will work for their professional life considering that their actions are in harmony with the Code for Professional Conduct.

But, IOM3 is worried that if any of its members have any ethical problem, specifically if they have the tension of not following the Rules For Professional Conduct, they must discuss their problems or grievances with the IOM3 senior members.

Any member requiring or willing for this has to contact the Director of Membership and Professional Standards to get arrangements done.

IOM 3 Membership (Rules For Professional Conduct):

1.   Every member must perform their professional duties with integrity and not do something that is beyond their capability.

2.   All members have to take public interest into account, particularly when it comes to public safety and health and the welfare of future generations.

3.   The members must denote respect for the environment and the management of sustainable natural resources.

4.   Every member needs to improve, boost or update their professional skills regularly. They also need to provide all reasonable support for the development of education, training, and continuing professional development of other members and probable professional members.

5.   The member must inform the IOM3, if convicted of a criminal offering like violence, dishonesty, or becoming bankrupt or disqualified as a Company Director, or if eliminated from the membership of any other authority as a result of a disciplinary procedure.

An applicant applying for professional membership can also apply for their registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Scientist (CSci), and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnV) simultaneously. Their eligibility is dependent on their educational background and work experience.

Engineers, scientists, physicists, scientists, chemists, technologists, and geologists from packaging and wood, academic, industrial, and similar sectors can apply for MIMMM.

They need to have the required skills and potential for the satisfaction of underlying technical principles. They must show excellent management skills, decision making, and discernment.

CEng MIMMM

If you want to apply for CEng MIMMM, then you need to show your management and leadership skills for professional engineering and experience.

You must have a deep understanding of engineering promoting your IOM3 discipline. Apart from that, you need to demonstrate your knowledge in practical scenarios like testing, manufacture, design, safety, and maintenance of components, devices, and structure or the process plant control.
