WAYS TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP

Creating and delivering accurate equity to every student is the main objective of educational reform across the country. But such a complex task must be accomplished by one classroom at a time. The district leaders and schools are currently facing complex tasks of reforming the practices that have contributed to "the learning gap" where the student of colour, students with disabilities, underserved students, students in foster care, and many other groups are less likely to succeed in reading, among all the other crucial skills essential to success in life. To close the gap, the focus should be on equity must be replaced with promoting equity.

HOW TO CLOSE THE RACIAL ACADEMIC GAP?

The achievement gap is reflected differently in each relationship; the only way to close the gap is by attending directly to individual students' needs. To work towards fixing the widespread disparities and inequities that are manifested across the schools and classrooms, each student needs the encouragement and attention required to help them perform at all levels.

Some tips can help in closing the racial academic gap. These tips are tried-and-tested methods for effectively closing the gap.

  1. The more students struggle, the more time they need with their teacher. The instructions offered to the struggling students should be explicit and targeted to each student's needs, which will require more time, repetition, greater detail, more frequency, and much more.
  2. You need to track the process of the struggling student. Formative assessments help the teachers analyze and monitor the student's progress; they can address the gaps appropriately and observe the students' performance.
  3. One of the essential elements in closing the racial academic gap is active, in-depth cooperation between teachers, schools, communities, and caregivers.
  4. Help everyone with their consistent progress, support struggling students, and encourage real success for students at levels by implementing evidence-based learning programs.
  5. Most students can achieve high levels when they are taught at high levels. A well-built curriculum that features balanced instructions emphasizes the importance of building comprehension skills and empowering the students to succeed within their capacity.
