Grease trap pumping

How to treat grease traps in a proper way - Do's and don'ts that you need to follow

When it comes to keeping commercial kitchens hygienic, it is important to clean up the grease trap and separate greasy matter from waste liquid. If there is too much accumulation of oils, fats and grease inside the trap, the separation process will be impeded and the drain will get clogged by the aforementioned waste matter.

You have to follow these do's and don'ts, in order to make sure that grease traps are treated in a proper way:

DO's

You should scrape off leftovers from dishes and into the garbage in order to prevent fibrous material rundown into the drain.

It is always important to maintain a regular grease trap cleaning schedule.

Avoid rinsing of hot pots and pans down the drain, which can put your plumbing system at risk and lead to problems that might be expensive to fix for you. Instead of doing so, you should scrape butter, greases fats and cooking oils into empty containers - such as cans and tins, and toss them into the garbage.

The fats, oils and grease released into the drain can get solidified and block the plumbing system completely. It is a fact that commercial plumbers often report that pipes have to be replaced completely in many cases, due to clogging by grease.

DON'Ts

Grease, oil, fat etc. are decomposed into carbon dioxide and water by the natural bacteria present within the grease trap.

Natural bacteria are killed in case of use of chemicals like enzymes, emulsifiers and bleach and the grease trap separation process is inhibited as a result.

Due to this reason, you should never use chemical agents for cleaning of Grease traps.

Instead, for the purpose of effective treatment, you should call in your local commercial plumbers for grease trap service.
