Does Internet Speed Depend on SIM or Mobile Device?

In this networked era, the internet has drastically transformed our lives. With connected workplaces, video-conferencing, and calls, we use the internet 24*7. However, slow internet speeds can lead to call drops, poor quality videos, stuck-up text messages, or emails.

Inferior internet speeds consequently slow down our overall work. But have you ever wondered what might be the actual cause of a weak network? The internet performance can depend upon both the SIM network and your handset.

There can be several reasons for erratic internet speed on a mobile device.

  • The antennas used in smartphones can be substandard
  • The cell phone might not support all the network bands
  • Older phone models with slower processors can cause slower internet speeds
  • RAM(Random access memory) on your device can indirectly affect the lag in internet speeds

Similarly, the generation of the SIM card you have, like 3G or 4G, or the type of plan you select for your SIM also plays a significant role in the network speed. Internet speed also depends on the network strength the operator provides. Ensure to check for all these factors while getting a prepaid or postpaid SIM.

Here are some tweaks that you can try for faster upload download speed before you proceed to blame your service provider:

Try a soft reset:

Like the first solution to all electronic issues, try a soft reset of your phone by turning it off and back on again. Although it is not sorcery, it still works like magic in most cases.

Check your Phone Battery:

Searching for signals consumes some battery, and mobile phones tend to save battery when running low. So ensure you have enough battery to improve the signal strength.

Free up Storage space:

Sometimes your phone's hardware might be struggling to keep up with the graphics or webpage, while you might perceive it as a slow network. Try uninstalling/off-loading the apps that you no longer use. Slow phone internet might as well be a sign you need a new phone!
