It can be shocking, but it’s time to reframe and refocus. We can utilize this time and take this as an opportunity to learn and improve without the distraction of our daily lives. Here are a few things that you can do to upskill, stay productive, keep yourself busy and entertained during the Coronavirus lockdown!

Devoting some of our lockdown time to self-education makes sense. Besides helping to boost your learning during this economic uncertainty, learning a new skill can give you a sense of control that will help cope with anxiety provoked by the pandemic and it will also boost up the confidence in you.

Every PGDM Program will require that students possess, right from the beginning, core skills in the areas of Basics of Statistics, Information Technology, Accounting & Finance and Business Communication. While you may have brushed up on your skills to prepare for the CAT/XAT/MAT or any other entrance exam, there is probably room for further learning in order to be ready more effectively for your PGDM Program. Online refresher courses, Tutorials, E-books and Business articles can help you to prepare yourself in this regard.

Refresher courses typically consist of a series of preparatory Courses/Topics taken before entering a PGDM/MBA program. These classes are designed to help students to review Fundamental knowledge & Business concepts. Courses and tutorials in the areas of Basics of Statistics, Information Technology, Accounting & Finance and Business Communication, etc. are available online through various sources. You can also download and read e-books to improve your business understanding & concepts. This will also keep you updated with industry news and trends.

The specifics vary from platform to platform, though many follow the same basic model. With easy sources like Youtube tutorial and to the larger platforms such as edX, Coursera, and FutureLearn, you can choose among the variety of courses and video tutorials. Here in these videos, you are being taught by experts in the field. The courses are of varying lengths – from a few hours to a regular weekly commitment – and typically involve video lectures, reading texts and regular tests to check your memory and understanding of the concepts. These learning tools are even available free of cost through various sources where enrollment is free.

Apart from the above learning activities, you can also engage yourself in some social cause and stress-relieving activities. Here are a few activities to follow:

Community: Serve your community! They are feeling the pinch of this situation too and need your assistance. Things you can do to showcase empathy and care will help relieve pressure from them in a responsible way.

Creativity: When there is less time to interact in person, there is more time reserved to finish the important things you’ve been putting off. Is there a new creative skill you can learn? A new hobby like dance, music & painting you can learn, practice and improve your perfection. You can also write whatever you want, whenever you want. Write stories, blogs, jot down your best ideas, doodle, write about your day, or even create a list of goals, the choice is yours. Who knows, you might even find yourself inspired.

Watch & Surf relevant: Let’s be real, you’re going to be spending a lot of time watching TV & surfing the Internet over the next few weeks. You might as well expand your knowledge by picking best of the shows, documentaries & reading business articles.

Self-Care - During times of stress, taking care of ourselves becomes more important than ever. But self-care isn’t solely about eating healthy or drinking plenty of water, though those are vital components. It also means taking care of our mental and emotional health. Stay fit- Working out at home can be just as beneficial for both your mind and body. It’s also important to keep in touch with your friends and relatives through apps like Whatsapp and Zoom to make you socially active.
