Rebaudioside A also known as reb a stevia is one of the sweetest and best tasting natural compounds found on the stevia leaf. Interestingly it is estimated to be 200× sweeter than sucrose(sugar). The Difference Between Stevioside and Reb A Stevia


The stevia rebaudiana plant contains a very high percentage of stevioside along with reb-A and other compounds. When compared, stevioside has a potent bitter aftertaste while reb a stevia contains hardly any. Ideally, stevioside makes up the majority of the sweetness, but studies show that when reb-A is present in higher amounts as compared to stevioside the lingering bitterness is reduced drastically.

How Reb A Stevia Is Extracted


The general extraction process of stevia begins with the drying and crushing of the leaves, post which they are immersed in hot water. The extract that comes out is a rich dark murky solution that contains stevia glycosides, along with certain impurities. The concentrated extract is then treated to eliminate the impurities. Next, it undergoes the filtration process, and then it is passed through an adsorption resin to capture the steviol glycosides. Once the steviol glycosides are collected the extract undergoes desalination and decolorization. Once the process of drying, decolorization, and concentration is done, rebaudioside A is finally obtained through the process of spray drying.
