Gynaecological Endoscopy training

Gynaecological endoscopy is a surgical area that uses optical instruments specially  designed to help diagnose gynaecological disorders and pathologies such as some  small vaginal  haemorrhages, infertility problems, or endometrial polyps among others. Endoscopy is a medical procedure where doctors observe the problem inside of the body without performing major surgery.  An endoscope (fibre scope) is a long flexible medical device with a video camera at one end and lens at the  other. The end with the lens is inserted into the particular part of the body of the patient to diagnose the problem. The application list in modern gynaecology of endoscopy is growing every year. Endoscopic surgery, Gynaecology is probably the most significant advancement in surgical practice. Endoscopy has settled a firm place in the management of patients with infertility and endoscopic surgical techniques  would  develop  rapidly in the near future to serve the different needs of female patients. There are 3 types of endoscopic surgery in obstetrics and gynaecology such as laparoscopy, salpingoscopy and hysteroscopy. The main indications for  laparoscopic surgery are myoma uteri, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian tumours, infertility, and endometriosis.

Laparoscopy

Along with the advances in technology, laparoscopic  surgery is rapidly and  systematically replacing conventional surgery except for the most difficult cases.  Diagnostic laparoscopy is an invaluable machine for estimating patients with  infertility, chronic pelvic pain,  endometriosis  and adhesions and an adjunct in  grading of gynaecological cancers. The magnificent  envision of the peritoneal  cavity not only helps in diagnosis, but also allows for an accurate assessment of these conditions. The laparoscopic viewpoint is now the favoured method for the treatment of myoma uteri, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian tumors, infertility, endometriosis and inflammatory masses.

After the minor surgery, like appendix removal, patient may be able to resume normal activities within 3 weeks. Following  major surgery, such as removal of  her ovaries or kidney because of cancer, the time of recovery may be as long as 12 weeks.

Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is a medical procedure used to test the inside of the womb(uterus). It is carried out using a hysteroscope, which is tapered telescope with a light and camera at the end. Pictures examined are sent to a monitor so that a doctor or specialist nurse could see inside the woman's womb.

AC&D hysteroscopy is an excellent way to get to the root of massive  bleeding. There  might be a range of reasons behind the circumstances. The test could confirm the root cause and even treat some issues. The time of recovery is short, might be 2-3 days. Diagnostic hysteroscopy could also be used to confirm results of other tests, such as hysterosalpingography (HSG). HSG is an X-ray dye test which could be used to check the uterus and fallopian tubes. Diagnostic hysteroscopy could often be done in an office setting.

Hysteroscopy is deliberated as minor surgery and usually it is not essential to stay overnight in the hospital. However, in certain circumstances, such as if a doctor is concerned about patient's reaction to anaesthesia, an overnight stay might be required.

Salpingoscopy

Salpingoscopy is an endoscopic method that allows the direct visualization of the  tubal mucosa. The level of the tubal mucosa is the best prognostic factor when  measuring patients with tubal infertility.

Wounds from laparoscopic surgery heal quicker than the abdominal surgery. But  still, patient won't fully recover before 2 to 4 weeks. Patient would take 3 to 6 weeks to recover from abdominal surgery. The knowledge of the time of recovery is very important to the gynaecologists to assist patients in their recovery from surgeries.
