EV Nitro Rallycross car debuts Festival of Speed with Jenson Button

Mastercard's announcements for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 keep coming. This time it's the turn of Nitro Rallycross team XITE Energy Racing to bring its pair of electric FC1-X machines to the Hillclimb and Forest Rally Stage.

These cars will be driven by two XITE Energy Racing drivers: Formula 1 champion Jenson Button and cross-country rally fan Oli Bennett. Button, who signed to drive for the team earlier this year, will make his Lydden debut a week before the Festival of Speed.

FC1-X is an independent Group E race built for this year's Nitro Rallycross season, with XITE as one of four teams participating. It produces over 1,000 hp (735 kW) and claims it can go from 0-100 km/h in 1.5 seconds - we can't wait to see what it looks like outside the starting line.

We'll be making more announcements like this ahead of the Festival of Speed, with many of the world's best cars and drivers already confirmed. Be sure to check back in the coming weeks for all the latest FOS news. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Festival of Speed Tickets from our website.

Reborn Rex Prodrive P25 for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 entrance

If you are looking for a Hyundai Subaru Impreza 22B STI, this is the closest you can get.

Prodrive, the UK-based motorsports company behind some of Subaru's biggest rally victories, will unveil its retro-looking P25 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 in June.

The Prodrive P25, previewed in sketches, looks nearly identical to the rally-derived two-door 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STI, but thanks to "modern technology," the motorsports company claims it will be stronger, lighter, and have better management.

The P25 name commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC)'s first debut in the World Rally Championship.

Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine with an output of more than 298 kW. It will be mated to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, with power sent to all four wheels.

The Prodrive P25 will also seemingly have a lightweight framework with "heavy use of carbon fibre". It is unclear whether this will be a modified platform or a redesigned version of the existing Subaru Impreza WRC platform.

The UK-based racing company will build just 25 Subaru Impreza 22B style cars at its headquarters in Banbury, UK.

Who designed the original Subaru Impreza WRC for Prodrive, the Prodrive P25 was designed by Peter Stevens, who was responsible for the engineering of the original rally car, while engineering was overseen by Prodrive Technical Director David Lapworth.

Prodrive has already expressed interest in the P25, with the first of 25 cars set to be delivered to customers later in 2022.

Limited-production reinterpretations of classic iconic vehicles are currently on the rise, with recent examples including vehicles such as the Lancia 037-inspired Kimera Evo37, and the Jaguar E-Type-inspired Eagle Lightweight GT and Singer's Porsche 911.

DeLorean will also unveil its retro-inspired DeLorean EV on May 31, 2022, before unveiling it at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18, 2022.

The Prodrive P25 will sit together with the Hunter, the legal version of the brand's Dakar Rally rival, in the ever-expanding prodrive range.
