amazing ideas to get your outdoor space ready for the festive season

Now that the holiday season has arrived, it's the ideal time to get your outdoor space ready for long summer days and nights spent entertaining family and friends.

Creating your ideal outdoor spaces in which to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature is just as important as boosting your energy levels and restoring everyone at the end of a busy year.

Eve Gunson, interior stylist and owner of Dot + Pop, shared her top tips for preparing your garden for summer and the upcoming party season.

1. Provide a large number of seats.

"If you like to entertain, your outdoor space should have enough seating to accommodate large groups of family and friends," Eve says. Invest in a large table and chairs, as well as a second zone with additional casual seating, to give you and your guests a variety of places to gather or retreat to if the need arises.

Eve advises, "It's critical to carefully select your furniture in accordance with your entertaining style."

2. Provide areas for relaxation.

Rather than designing spaces solely for entertaining, you may want to consider using your garden as a place to relax and unwind.

Consider creating relaxation nooks in your garden or on your deck where you can escape for some peace and quiet. Even if space is limited, all that is required is a small area set aside. "Look into a modern take on the sun lounger if you enjoy relaxing and reading your book," Eve suggests.

3. Prepare your home for entertaining.

Increase the opulence of your summer soiree by going above and beyond with decorations, whether for Christmas or just to create a festive atmosphere. "Use soft furnishings and decor items to add a pop of colour and some summer fun to your outdoor space," Eve says.

4. Suggestions for bringing colour and style to your outdoor spaces

Cushion your furniture with outdoor cushions.

Make some festoon lighting.

To add personality, use statement pots and plants.

For a new season look, paint your fence, veranda, or pergola.

Use a rug to divide the space into zones for relaxing and entertaining.

5. Use lighting to create ambiance.

Fairy lights or string lights are the simplest way to add ambience and a party atmosphere to your space. Connect multiple strands for a dramatic atmosphere throughout the garden, or use one long strand to light up your patio area.

6. Construct a fire pit

With a fire pit, you can add atmosphere and wow-factor to your outdoor space. This can be cooked on and enjoyed all year as a source of heat on cooler evenings and a great focal point for summer gatherings with family and friends.

7. Refresh your garden for the summer season

Now that the sun is shining, it's time to get outside and begin restoring your garden to its former glory or transforming it into a lush tropical retreat.

"Start by weeding, pruning, mulching, and fertilising your existing plants," Eve advises, "and they will happily spring back to life." "Then go to your neighbourhood nursery."

8. Decorate your outdoor space with plants

To go above and beyond and create a tropical oasis that your guests will never want to leave Eve suggests using pots, planters, and hanging plants to add more greenery to the space. "You can easily bring the greenery up onto your deck, balcony, or patio and change the overall feel of your space by using moveable planting solutions," Eve says.
