Factors to Consider for Artificial Turf Field Construction

Several things must be considered during the artificial turf field construction process, but a single source contractor with a proven track record will make your life easier. Unlike labor-only companies, synthetic turf manufacturers should have a track record of successful installations in your area. You should expect a weekly progress report from your construction company. During the construction phase, be aware of any issues that may arise and make the team responsible for them. The following are some of the factors to consider before contracting with an artificial turf field construction company.

First, you must evaluate existing sports fields to determine what can be kept or reused. For example, if a school field has a base layer, preserving it might be an economical option. If the sports field has drainage infrastructure, it is important to keep this as it will carry over into the artificial turf installation. You should also consult an expert on sports field soils to learn whether or not to preserve the base layer. Moreover, you should also determine if you should save the drainage infrastructure that was built during the previous construction.

The installation process begins with the preparation of the ground. The granular base is covered with geotextile fabric and then spread with synthetic turf. The artificial turf is then glued with two-component polyurethane. Field lines are then added to the artificial turf system in sport-appropriate places. The last step of synthetic turf field construction is the pouring of sand. Afterward, the sand is brushed by a brushing machine.

Before the town council approves a project, it must obtain a special-permit and site plan approval from the Zoning Commission. A public zoning hearing on the project started on Sept. 22, and the commission hopes that residents will attend the next meeting on Oct. 13. The cost of the artificial turf field construction is approximately $750,000, which is the average price of a synthetic field. The construction cost is expected to increase as more bids are submitted after November.

While most research studies have not conclusively identified the difference in the risks of laceration and abrasion, it is possible that some synthetic turf surfaces are more prone to infection. Infected skin is often more vulnerable to infection from infectious agents on the surface. Although these studies have not been conducted extensively, the available information shows that outdoor synthetic turf surfaces do not harbor more infectious agents than other surfaces in the same environment. This is a significant concern because these surfaces are often unsuitable for a number of activities.

Once you've made the decision to construct an artificial turf field, it's time to begin considering how to finance it. In addition to the costs of artificial turf field construction, there are other important considerations. Depending on the number of sports you want to host, you'll need to consider the cost of construction materials. The construction process can take two to three years, but you should keep in mind that the construction period can vary from month to month. During these three months, you'll be guaranteed frost-free weather conditions.

The cheapest option for artificial grass is polypropylene. While polypropylene is available in a variety of styles, it's not the best option for larger projects. It has a low melting point, which makes it more susceptible to damage than other synthetic turf materials. You can use polypropylene for smaller spaces. These materials are generally less durable and tend to wear out faster. Hence, they're best for smaller spaces.

When constructing an artificial turf field, the manufacturer will select the fiber and infill systems as well as the turf backing. During the process, you'll be focused on the granular drainage layers. The two-inch layer on top is composed of quarter to three-eight-inch chip clean crushed stone to allow positive drainage. The four-inch base gradation will be more complex than the previous one. Typically, there will be several granular layers.

Moreover, many studies of crumb rubber artificial turf fields have found that there's a low risk of chemical exposure. However, there's still some uncertainty. The ages of the crumb rubber tested are not known and the results of the study are still preliminary. Further studies must be conducted to resolve these problems. This way, synthetic turf fields can remain safe while providing an excellent playing surface. Once the final product is completed, it will be available for public use.
