Ikkat Print

Ikkat print art product graphic with seamless repeat pattern.

What is Ikkat art?

The word 'Ikkat' (which means 'bind' in Indonesian) refers to a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles, using resist dyes to cover the yarns before dyeing and weaving.

What exactly is ikkat? is a method for coloring fabric in print by resist dyeing. Neither the print is applied to the surface of a finished fabric nor is it woven into its structure. A resist is used to protect the warps and wefts of the yarn before dying.

There are three major types of ikkat, each attributed to the warp (the yarns attached to the loom and held stationary) and the weft (the yarn threaded between the warp yarns in an over-under pattern).
