The Cellular Jail is a former prison located in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India. It was built in 1912–1914 to house political dissidents, and later functioned as a prison for political prisoners, civilians whose convictions were obtained without a fair trial, and convicted criminals sentenced to life in prison. It was taken over by the Indian government in 1946 and renamed Arthur Jail. It was closed in 1972.
