Applications of Stainless Steel 316 Pipes

What are the Stainless Steel 316 Pipes?

The second-most popular commercial grade of stainless steel used in a variety of applications is stainless steel 316 pipes. In typical air conditions, this 316 grade has exceptional corrosion resistance. In environments where resistance to chlorine corrosion is necessary, such as seawater, SS 316 pipe performs superbly.

At high temperatures, Stainless Steel 316 Pipes have a strong creep strength. In order to increase resistance to corrosion and chloride pitting, molybdenum is added to stainless steel 316 pipes. Pipes made of stainless steel 316 have more power, but they shouldn't be utilized in areas where corrosion due to sensitization is a concern.

Applications of Stainless Steel 316 Pipes

316 stainless steel Pipes are utilized in heat exchangers, furnace parts, pressure vessels, threaded fasteners, springs, petrochemical, marine, and cement manufacturing equipment. Examples of applications include pressure tanks, chemical containers, furnace parts, valves and pumps, pharmaceutical equipment, brewing facilities, boat fittings, stainless steel floats, coastal environments, and medical and brewing equipment.

In addition to surfaces, appliances, and equipment utilized in food preparation, stainless steel 316 pipes are employed in chloride environments. In the medical field, these pipes are used to make orthopedic implants such as total hip and knee replacements as well as screws, pins, and other fasteners. In order to avoid product contamination with iron, the pulp and paper sector uses stainless steel 316 pipes.
