Physical Therapy Courses

Pre-professional courses prepare students for the doctoral program. Students complete three years of pre-professional courses at Fairleigh Dickinson University and transfer their credits to Rutgers University. Graduates of this program earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. For international students, an English language proficiency course or placement exam is required. Applicants must take a TOEFL exam to demonstrate English language proficiency.

In the second phase of the three-course sequence, students develop clinical skills in treating patients with diverse conditions. Each case-study course introduces students to a different aspect of the nervous system. Students learn to diagnose and treat patients with neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary diseases. Students are also taught to perform neurological tests and determine a patient's prognosis. Students must develop intervention strategies to address diverse patient cases and case studies.

Pre-physical therapy students will also be exposed to an experiential learning course called Health Coaches. This course will include weekly discussions with healthcare professionals, a semester spent in the clinic with patients, and service hours in the medical field. Students will also spend time in a Simulation Lab, a computerized environment that incorporates a full-functioning house, outdoor environment, and vehicle. Mock hospital rooms will allow students to practice physical therapy in an acute care environment.

Physical Therapy Example

If you're looking for an excellent physical therapy example, you've come to the right place. If you're looking for an example of a treatment plan, consider the steps a physical therapist takes to determine an appropriate course of action. Here are a few of these steps:

Often, physical therapists will recommend specific exercises to improve mobility. These exercises are often tailored to the individual's lifestyle. For instance, they might suggest that patients stand up during the day or walk around several times during the day. The treatment plan should take into account the things people typically do, such as sitting and standing when coming up with an effective treatment plan. In addition, the physical therapist should consider the activities of a patient to determine how to best address his or her needs.

Another option is to develop a home exercise program that connects physical therapists with patients at home. Telemedicine systems can be incredibly helpful in this regard, as they allow physical therapists to communicate with patients via phone or video. But to be effective, they must be flexible, have interactive features, and help patients customize their exercises. Listed below are just a few of the many home exercise programs that can help physical therapists improve the quality of their work.

A physical therapist can't offer a physical therapy treatment without a physician's referral. However, this is not allowed under the laws of many states. Regardless of the source of a referral, it is necessary to have a referral. Physical therapy services are expensive, and a physician who isn't a licensed physical therapist can't offer them a physical therapy service without a referral. The doctor must have no financial interest in the patient's care.
