Eligibility Criteria For NER Engineers Australia

The Australian engineer regulation authority, Engineers Australia introduced the National Engineering Register (NER) in 2015. It is a comprehensive directory and way to recognize those engineers who fulfill the high standards of skill, qualification and professionalism that are expected in the industry. It means having your name on the NER Engineers Australia will be an achievement for you.

NER provides a national framework of registration for professional engineers, engineering technologists and engineering associates across the public and private sectors.

It is a publicly-searchable database and gives people and businesses access to a qualified pool of engineers who are endorsed by the country’s engineering peak body.

Eligibility criteria for NER Engineers Australia:

As an engineer, attaining and showing the NER credential is a way to show your engineering talent, skills and work experience to prospective clients and employers.

You are not required to be a member of Engineers Australia to apply for a NER credential.

To earn the NER Engineers Australia credential, satisfy the following criteria:

·       Have an EA-recognized engineering qualification or a successful Engineers Australia migration skills assessment or membership competency assessment

·       Fulfill all the competencies for independent practice in your occupational category

·       Have 5 or more years of related full-time equivalent engineering work experience in the last 10 years, with a minimum of 4 years of full-time equivalent post-graduate work experience

How to apply:

You have to go through a five-step process for applying for NER:

1.  Create an account in the EA portal.

2.  Log in and complete the online self-assessment form to rate yourself against the NER competency and apply for NER.

3.  Have two relevant referees capable of verifying your recent work experience.

4.  Appear in a NER interview with a qualified Engineers Australia assessor.
