An area rug may lend an aesthetic touch to a space. If you want to change the look of your home or introduce fresh colors, an area rug is the perfect alternative. Well, an Area Rug on the floor is preferable to a bare floor, and it has several advantages. Sound absorption is one of the advantages, but there are many more.

You may, without a doubt, add an Indoor Area Rug to your home; nevertheless, its location might be difficult. Area rugs are available in a variety of dimensions, sizes, colors, designs, materials, and other features. However, when it comes to buying an area rug, everyone has their own preferences. Here are some tips which will help you ease you decision.

At GwG Accent chairs, carpets, furniture, home & garden décor, patio, and wall accessories are also available. To compliment your house or apartment, our GwG goods are created in both contemporary and classic designs.

1) Choose the room

Before buying an area rug, it is important to choose a room in your house where you want to redefine your bare floor. For instance, you can have an area rug in your living room, dining room, or even your Balcony. Choosing a room will help you narrow down your search and give you insight into the rug's placement. This will influence the design of your rug, its size, which is discussed further in this article, and even the design. This is an easy step towards positioning your rug in an ideal setup.

2) Check your room dimensions

Once you have chosen a room to place your area rug, you realize that space is a constraint. For instance, considering the room dimensions, ideally, the living room has much space compared to your bedroom. Hence, this can influence your buying strategy and the placement of your rug. Furthermore, this influences the furniture placement as you can decide between a larger rug or a smaller one. For instance, the smaller rug will sit perfectly well between the furniture on which you can place a Tea Pot table or a Coffee table. Apart from this, a larger area rug, mainly 8'x, 9', will overlap with the furniture in which you'll have to place it partially under the furniture, which will be discussed further.

3) Decide the ideal placement of furniture

Your area rug must integrate well with your furniture placement. For instance, if you have a larger area rug, you will have to place it under the furniture. However, your furniture will have to move around to make perfect use of the area rug. For instance, when you place your area rug partially under the sofa, you must remember that the legs while sitting on the sofa need to be on the rug.

Additionally, there is a key point to remember for placing the rug under the dining table. The chairs on the dining table should be placed to slide out easily on the carpet. Else, uneven placement of the chair will make you feel uncomfortable. Hence, the chairs should either be the whole way in and out or outside the area rug.

4) Check the size of your bare floor

This is usually a factor while placing your area rug in larger areas. Your bare floor area needs to balance the area covered by the rug perfectly. For the bedroom, placing the area rug partially under the bed makes it look perfect despite the bigger space of the room. However, this doesn't sit well in the living room when there is no balance. For instance, you do not want a larger rug and less bare floor area. This depends on the size of your room, the placement of the sofa, and other factors. In this case, you will need to decide the size of your area rug before placing it. As mentioned previously, the perfect size and placing it perfectly under your furniture will bring an aesthetic look.

5) Equal spacing from the walls

The aesthetic of your room will uncover when you make exclusive use of its dimensions. This includes the landscape and portrait placement of your room. Apart from this, it is also important to leave equal spacing from the walls if your rug is covering the entire room. This makes the room look aesthetic, with perfect dimensions satisfying your OCD.

Additionally, if you are confused about which room you need to place a rug in, you need to factor in the populated rooms most of the time. For instance, the living room and the dining room.

6) Place the rug partially under the furniture

Emphasizing the rug placement under the furniture if it is larger is quite important since you can make full use of the space. While placing your area rug under the furniture, remember the following points;

  • Keep the area rug such that your legs can rest on it.
  • The area of rug under the sofa & bed should be placed keeping in mind the dimensions.
  • Whereas for the dining table, you can place the area rug completely under the table and chairs. The same can apply to the sofa and bed.
  • Large rugs can be placed completely under the furniture, whereas smaller ones need to cover more bare grounds than the area under furniture.
  • If you wish to avoid placing the rug under the furniture, you can choose runners on either side.

Experts say that when there is confusion between choosing a smaller rug or a larger rug, you can comfortably go for a larger one. This is because larger rugs can bring your furniture together instead of smaller rugs that don't unify it. Smaller rugs can make your furniture seem disconnected. However, having said that, smaller rugs can also bring out the aesthetics when placed in the right way. Ultimately, it is your home, and you need to place the area rug in a manner that makes you feel comfortable.
