Pilates is a form of exercise that was invented by Joseph Pilates. He describes it as '...develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit'.


Pilates has some similarities to yoga in that they both focus on specific movements and breathing. Pilates aims to help you become stronger and leaner, with an improved posture and core strength. The exercises you do can help prevent injury in day-to-day life and when taking part in sport. It can also help with your recovery after injury and can relieve you of the aches and pains of daily life such as backache, stiffness and achy joints.

Is Pilates good for Sciatica?

Yes, regular Pilates classes practising specific, gentle moves at first that don’t overstretch the nerve will help ease Sciatica.
