The Top 21 Online Grocery Apps in 2022 (Globally)

Introduction

People tend to spend hours on shopping trips because groceries are a part of their basic daily needs. For decades, weekly grocery shopping has been a common practice. People typically spend hours at the grocery store, selecting the best grocery from available options, and contemplating their choices. Although this appeared to be a critical step, the introduction of on-demand apps has shown that it is not always necessary to waste hours on grocery shopping.

These apps provide numerous benefits to all parties involved, including the ability for customers to shop from home, sellers to sell their groceries before they spoil, and part-time employees to earn extra money.

The Top 21 On-Demand Grocery Delivery Apps

Grocery companies have realized the importance of digitization, and instead of resisting change, they are beginning to see the benefits of on-demand delivery. Many grocery stores have gone on-demand, and many other aggregators have sprung up to provide a platform for those who lack the resources to go online. As a result, numerous on-demand grocery apps are thriving in the market. Some of these players will be discussed further below. My favorite choices range from 1 to 6.

1. Instacart

In North America, Instacart is a market leader in the online grocery market. It covers nearly 85% of the United States and nearly 65% of Canada. Instacart has partnerships with grocery giants such as WholeFoods, Costco, and Safeway, and delivers over 300,000 items through them. Instacart has over 25,000 store partners and has raised six rounds of funding. By the end of 2019, the company was worth $8 billion.

2. Postmates

Postmates is an on-demand app that was founded in May 2011. The app functions similarly to a tech-driven courier service, but for your daily needs. The app uses mobile devices and GPS to match your needs with nearby products and then delivers them to you. The company has partnered with McDonald's, Walgreens, Starbucks, Chipotle, and others and can process over 8 million orders per month. The company has approximately 250,000 merchants who serve over 3500 cities. The company is worth USD 1.85 billion.

3. Shipt

This is yet another grocery delivery service that operates across the United States. It has over 50,000 customers and annual revenue of $120 million. The company has collaborated with retailers such as Target, Whole Foods, Publix, and Costco. It employs 604+ people who work hard to meet all of its customers' grocery-related needs.

4. Big Basket

Big Basket is one of India's leading grocery service providers. Because of their popularity, they perform better than their competitors Grofers, Nature's Basket, Reliance Fresh, and others. They sell over 18,000 products and have over 1000 brands that sell fruits and vegetables, rice, pulses, beverages, spices, meats, personal care products, and a variety of other items. They are well-known throughout the country for their excellent customer service.

5. Farmigo

This on-demand app is a fantastic online farmers' app that allows customers to order dairy products, snacks, meats, and other products. The main goal of this app is to provide its customers with fresh produce and items directly from farmers at a lower cost and higher quality than a supermarket. Every year, the company earns nearly US$ 3.5 million in revenue.

6. Peapod

Peapod is a grocery delivery service based in Chicago. It provides groceries in over 24 US cities, including Washington, Boston, New York, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, and Chicago. Customers can use the app to create grocery lists.

7. FreshDirect

FreshDirect, as the name implies, focuses on providing the freshest products to its customers. FreshDirect's main target audience is people who are concerned about what they eat, want to know where it comes from, and are willing to pay a premium for freshness.

David McInerney founded the company in 1999, and it has since provided daily groceries to multiple cities in the northeast US, including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, Delaware, Connecticut, and others.

8. Instashop

Unlike most grocery delivery companies, Instashop began as a company that focuses on a specific niche and tries to meet all of its needs. For their business, they target young professionals. The company was founded in 2015 and is based in Dubai. The company, which began as an on-demand grocery delivery service, has now expanded to include products related to pharmacy, butcher, pet shop, and maid services. It currently has over 50 supermarket partners, 150 employees, and over 350,000 active customers.

9. Walmart Grocery Delivery

The Walmart grocery delivery app is a product of the Walmart store. Walmart has been a household name in the United States for a long time, so people were taken aback when they announced their delivery service. Most of the products purchased in the store can be found under this heading. This is an excellent way to have groceries delivered directly to your door from your favorite store. You can easily select a time slot for delivery with Walmart delivery. The products are available for an additional fee ranging from $8 to $10. 11. Safeway

Safeway is a well-known brand in the United States; it has been a leading grocery chain in North America for many years. 12. Google Express

Google Express is similar to a virtual mall, offering products from both online and offline stores. This service focuses on delivering dry grocery items such as canned food, cereal, and coffee. When a consumer orders products in cash, many discount features are unavailable.

14. Reliance Fresh

Another Indian grocery delivery service is Reliance Fresh. It operates its physical stores and also provides online delivery in certain areas of the country. Mukesh Ambani and V. 15. HelloFresh

HelloFresh, headquartered in Berlin, is an online retailer that provides ingredients for various recipes. Their business model is simple: they provide the ingredients needed to prepare a meal.

20. Weezy

Weezy is a new London-based startup that was founded in 2019. The startup is attempting to redefine the term "fast delivery," to make 15-minute delivery a reality.
