Organic cold pressed oils v/s regular oils: Know the differences

If you are trying to switch to organic food products or you are simply trying to make some healthier choices, it is highly likely that you’ve already come across the benefits of organic cold pressed oils. Oils are an integral part of the Indian diet and they are used for preparing a variety of dishes. From salads and snacks to main course, oils are a part of every single recipe. Hence, opting for the right oil is an important decision that you should make mindfully.

Major differences between organic cold pressed oils and regular oils

In the past few years, there has been a rise in the number of people wanting to live healthier lifestyles. And hence, several people are switching from regular oils to organic cold pressed oils. Organic cold pressed oils also help in regulating your cardiovascular system. While it can be hard to differentiate between the two types of oils just from their taste, there are some major differences that you must know about. The following are some important differences between these two types of oils:

1.     The Process of Manufacturing

The way oil is extracted makes all the difference to its flavor and quality. Cold pressed oils are extracted from organic seeds and nuts. They are crushed without the use of heat or using low heat only. These seeds are placed within a huge cylinder and this cylinder is continuously rotated. This helps in crushing the nuts and the seeds till all the oil is extracted.

Given that low heat is used for this method, the original flavor, taste and aroma is retained by the oil. This oil is beneficial for your cardiovascular health as well as for your skin. Traditionally produced oil on the other hand makes use of a high amount of heat.

2.     Nutritional Value

Cold pressed oils on the other hand are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins E, K and C, and fatty acids. Cold pressed organic oils retain their nutrients as well as their natural form. Consuming cold pressed oils can be quite beneficial especially for people with chronic health issues. Excessive heat tends to destroy the potent nutrients present in seeds or nuts. Given that heat is used for extracting and processing regular oils, they do not retain their nutritional value.

Moreover, hot-pressed oils are also treated using hexane, acetic acid, and bleaching soda. Needless to say, these additional chemicals destroy whatever little nutrients are retained by the oil. Consuming refined oils can also increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

3.     Shelf-life

Regular oils are treated with harmful chemicals and they also undergo the hydrogenation process. This increases their shelf life significantly. On the other hand, cold pressed oils are minimally processed and are unfiltered. Thus, they have a shorter shelf life. Hence, when you purchase organic cold pressed oils, you are getting the freshest oil available.

Conclusion

Apart from including cold pressed oils in your diet, you also need to ensure that you consume other organic food products as well. This will help you in leading a healthier lifestyle in a cohesive manner and allow you to reap the benefits of organic cold pressed oils to the fullest.
