If you or your child has autism - it may say something like, "you must meet the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder."

You or your child may need help with things such as social interaction, communication, behavior, or understanding of light, color, and sound.

Autism is a life-long condition, so that I will use the story throughout childhood and adulthood. If you disagree with the results

When you get the report, you can:

tell you that you or your child does not have autism

You are advised to wait until your child is older to be screened again, as the signs of autism may not be obvious.

Getting a diagnosis, you disagree with, such as a learning disability

Ask the research team why they did the research they did.

A review team can organize a second opinion from another team. If you still need convincing, you can ask your GP to refer you to another section for a second opinion. Or you can pay for another assessment by a specialist of your choice who works outside the NHS (on a confidential basis). Remember that a second opinion can say the same thing.
