In Depth Information of UNS S32205 Pipe Suppliers

General Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe Information

The most popular grade of duplex (ferritic/austenitic) stainless steel is 32205. Due of its great strength and superior corrosion resistance, it is used. Numerous steel producers have improved the conventional duplex S31803 composition over the years, and the resulting constrained composition range was approved as UNS S32205 in 1996. Even though Duplex S32205 offers superior assured corrosion resistance, a large portion of currently produced Duplex S31803 complies with Duplex S32205. Due to the precipitation of brittle micro components at temperatures above 300 oC and the ductile-to-brittle transition it experiences at temperatures below -50 oC, 2205 is generally not appropriate for usage in these conditions.

When combined with the nitrogen addition, 2205's high chromium and molybdenum content offers general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion resistance that is superior to that of 316L and 317L.The stainless steel grade UNS S31803 underwent a number of changes to become UNS S32205, which was approved in 1996. This grade provides greater corrosion resistance.

When compared to 316 stainless steel, 2205 exhibits better erosion-corrosion resistance. Inter granular corrosion is not a concern in the welded state. Conventional techniques can be used to successfully machine 2205. Chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen are maintained at higher quantities in the (UNS S32205) grade's restricted-chemistry form than in the (UNS S31803) composition.

Duplex Corrosion Resistance

Excellent general corrosion resistance; in most situations, superior to Grade 316. Excellent resistance to localized corrosion, including as pitting, crevice, and intergranular corrosion; the CPT of 2205 is typically at least 35oC. At temperatures up to roughly 150oC, the grade is also resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC). The austenitic grade 32205 frequently performs well in conditions that cause austenitic grades to fail too soon. It can withstand seawater better than Grade 316.

Duplex Heat Resistance

Even though Duplex 32205 has good high temperature oxidation resistance, this grade, like other duplex stainless steels, becomes brittle when exposed to temperatures exceeding 300oC for even a brief period of time. If embrittled, only a thorough solution annealing treatment will be able to fix it. Nearly never are duplex stainless steels used over 300oC.
